How can I check whether my Reel likes and comments can be hidden from the Friends tab?
The short answer
Meta announced controls to hide your Reel likes and comments from the Friends tab. ClearRules recommends changing only a setting that explicitly covers your own activity there. If you cannot find it or understand its scope, treat the result as unconfirmed.
What this answer is based onWhat to do
Record a precise result: ‘Account @… retained option …, checked on …’. Do not replace that with ‘Nobody can see my likes now’.
- Define the goal: limit exposure of your interactions through the Friends tab, not delete a particular comment or stop seeing someone else’s activity. Open Instagram directly and check the account username. Review personal and work profiles separately.
- In app settings, look for a control whose explanation explicitly connects your likes and comments with the Reels Friends tab. If settings search is available, try those terms. This is a discovery suggestion, not a verified sequence of menus.
- Read the explanation and all available choices before changing anything. Confirm it governs what others see about you, rather than hiding someone else’s activity bubbles from your view. Online status, notifications or read receipts alone are not the control you are seeking.
- If a clearly described option excludes your likes and comments from this tab, select it and use any explicit save or confirmation offered. Do not guess what a similar-looking switch means or treat a missing setting as evidence that protection is already active.
- Leave the section and reopen it. Check the account, selected option and accompanying explanation. Note the date and exact wording; if helpful, keep a cropped screenshot of the setting without other people’s messages or unnecessary personal information.
- If the original interaction is the problem, Meta identifies Your Activity as a tool for removing previous likes and comments. Open that section if available, or the original reel. Locate the intended interaction by checking the reel author, text and date where shown; keep it separate from the tab’s visibility setting.
- Before removal, inspect the selected entries and the action’s explanation. Do not select everything by default. If you decide to remove a particular interaction, use a clearly labelled command, then check the available activity list and original reel. An unavailable reel does not prove removal. Do not assume recovery will be possible.
- If the control is missing, will not retain the choice or remains unclear, stop: the restriction is unconfirmed. For a missing control, consult current in-app Help. For an error, record the app version and exact message and follow the technical-troubleshooting guide. Do not change your age, country or account type to seek presumed access.
The situation
Fictional example: Marina uses a personal and a work profile. She wants to limit the additional exposure of her personal interactions through the Friends tab. She checks the account first, then looks for her own activity controls rather than turning off online status.
The situation and an improvement
You turn off a similar-looking setting and assume every interaction is invisible.
You verify the specific Friends-tab control or acknowledge uncertainty, while reviewing original interactions separately.
More examples
Hiding someone else’s bubble
The menu describes a particular person and what will appear in your own view.
What to do
Do not use that as confirmation that your likes are restricted. Look again for a setting explicitly describing your activity as seen by others.
A friend still sees the comment
After the change, someone opens the original reel and reads your comment.
What to do
Establish where they see the text. A comment on the original reel and its exposure through the Friends tab are separate questions; work with the comment itself if you want to remove it.

Meta’s 6 August 2025 announcement was read on 20 October 2026. It confirms the announced feature, not its present availability in every account. The exact settings route, current option labels, handling of previous activity and application timing were not verified; no account was tested. Targeted official Help searches did not yield an accessible instruction page for this control. The conditional discovery, verification and recording workflow below is ClearRules advice, not a tested interface route. Meta’s 20 May 2024 activity-tool description and the Your Activity passage in its 8 March 2022 update were also read. They support a separate route for earlier interactions, not a verified current menu path or recovery guarantee.
