How can I sign in if my passkey fails?
The short answer
A passkey uses your device’s unlock PIN or biometrics. These differ from your account password and SMS two-factor codes. Facebook passkeys work on compatible phones and computers.
What this answer is based onWhat to do
Keep working devices signed in. Don’t delete a working passkey to troubleshoot, or create one on shared/public devices.
- Open the official app or site and check which account you’re accessing.
- If the key is missing or doesn’t match, choose an offered alternative, such as your password.
- For Facebook, review passkeys in account security settings. Meta Account and Accounts Center labels and layouts can differ.
- Instagram passkeys are rolling out gradually. If absent, use available sign-in methods; Facebook’s menu path may not apply.
- Still stuck? Follow the forgotten-password, lost-two-factor or stalled-recovery guide for your screen. Recovery isn’t guaranteed.
The situation
Hypothetical: your new phone finds no matching key, but Facebook still opens on the old one.
