Why enable two-factor authentication if my password is strong?
The short answer
Check two things: where your login code will arrive and how you will regain access if you lose your phone. Meta recommends two-factor authentication and up-to-date recovery contact details.
What this answer is based onWhat to do
Before disconnecting your old number, make sure you can log in without it.
- While signed in, check the linked email address and phone number. Open your email and make sure you can actually receive messages.
- Enable an available two-factor method in security settings. If you choose an authenticator app, plan how to transfer it to your new phone.
- Save backup codes if they are offered during setup. Before giving up the old device, make sure you have prepared a usable login method.
The situation
Your Instagram password is saved, but login codes only arrive on the old SIM you are about to disconnect. Before switching phones, you need to set up another way to log in.
