How do we determine the status?
To identify a widespread outage, we need recent, independent evidence. A website responding does not prove that sign-in, feeds or messages work. We say when data is missing or outdated.
Technical website checks and public-feed collection are triggered by visits, at most every 5 and 15 minutes respectively. Regional editorial reviews have a separate two-hour schedule, shown above. No Downdetector API is connected; StatusGator is excluded.
Meta Status reports on business tools and APIs. These updates do not cover every part of the app.Reports older than 30 days are deleted at the next status refresh. We limit repeat submissions using a temporary browser identifier and a coded network identifier generated with a secret key. The database does not store the IP address itself.
