Can I promote a vacancy just like a coffee offer?

A ClearRules guidePublished: Updated: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Meta restricts targeting by age, gender and postal code for employment ads in the countries covered by the source. A café’s usual promotional settings cannot simply be reused for hiring.

What to do

Start with the job: duties, shifts, pay and relevant skills. Then check employment-ad requirements for the campaign’s country.

  1. Describe making drinks, shifts, pay and experience. Remove preferences about the applicant’s gender or age.
  2. Check both the advertiser’s country and the country you want to reach, including employment-category requirements. Select the special category if required and use its available settings.
  3. Open the application form or website. It should describe the same role and conditions. Save the finished ad and settings before launch.

The situation

Illustrative example

A Toronto café needs a barista. The owner writes “Woman aged 18–25 wanted” and plans to show the ad only to women in that age group. They think this will help fill the role faster.

The situation and an improvement

What causes the issue

“Woman aged 18–25 wanted for our café.” The plan is to show the vacancy only to that group.

A more accurate version

“Hiring a barista in Toronto. Shifts 7 am–3 pm, from CAD 22/hour. Tell us about your experience and availability.” Use the actual conditions and review campaign settings separately.
