Meta says “Business account restricted”. What should I check?

A ClearRules guidePublished: Updated: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Open the notice and check whether it concerns a business portfolio, ad account, Page or your ability to advertise. Select the named item in Business Support Home, Meta’s business support area. Complete the steps offered and request a review if available. If a business is missing from your list, that alone does not mean Meta has restricted it.

What to do

Write down the asset name and ID from the notice. “My business is blocked” can describe several different problems; the exact notice helps identify the right process.

  1. Open any notice from Meta and save its text, date, and the name and ID of the account, Page or portfolio it identifies. Check what stopped working: advertising, Page management or signing in to your personal Facebook account.
  2. Check the selected business and status overview in Business Support Home. If the asset is missing, first check your profile and permissions with the person who manages access. Do not share passwords.
  3. Complete the checks listed in the decision. If a review is offered, explain why you think the decision is wrong and provide the requested information. If you notice signs of a hack, also secure the affected personal account and keep notices of unauthorized changes.
  4. Keep the outcome and case number if provided. If the request is pending or declined, follow any available next actions. Do not create a new portfolio or move assets to evade the restriction.

Which situation applies to you?

Meta shows a business restriction decision

Match the asset name and ID in Business Support Home. Complete the offered checks and use review if Meta offers it.

Open Business Support Home
The notice names a specific ad account

Start with that ad account’s decision. Keep its ID, especially if you manage several businesses or clients.

The business is missing from my list

Check which profile and business are selected. Ask the person managing access to review your permissions. A missing asset alone does not show that Meta has restricted it.

Check the selected business
There are signs of a hack

Secure the affected personal account and keep notices of unauthorized changes. Restored sign-in and removal of the business restriction must be checked separately.

The situation

Illustrative example

A shop’s Page opens for customers, but Meta shows a business portfolio restriction. The owner saves the portfolio ID and opens its decision in Business Support Home. A working Page does not establish that the business can advertise.

More examples

“The business disappeared after we changed agencies”

A colleague still manages the assets, and you have no violation notice.

What to do

First check your invitation, selected profile and permissions. If there is no restriction notice, start by checking your access with the administrator.

“Unknown campaigns and an unfamiliar login appeared”

After an unfamiliar-login notice, you see changes your team did not make.

What to do

Start recovering and securing the affected account. In an available review, give dates and specific unauthorized changes. Restored sign-in and removal of the business restriction must be checked separately.
