What should I do if Facebook will not accept my identity confirmation?

A ClearRules guidePublished: Updated: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Open Facebook’s message to see what happened: the upload failed, the ID was rejected or the review is still pending. If the photo quality is the problem, take a new photo; if the review is pending, follow its status. Submit ID only through an official Facebook request.

What to do

Requirements can differ for signing in, confirming age, advertising or using a feature. Follow the instructions in the request you received.

  1. Open Facebook yourself and find the request. Note its date, purpose and error or decision text.
  2. For a quality-related rejection, photograph an accepted original ID clearly, in good light, with the whole document visible. Do not edit its details or substitute a screenshot or photocopy.
  3. Check the list of accepted documents and the notice explaining how Facebook will use them. Resubmit or choose another method only if Facebook offers it. While the review is pending, check the place where Facebook says it will send its reply.

Which situation applies to you?

ID rejected or required ID unavailable

Read the reason for rejection and check which IDs your verification process accepts. Keep the document details unchanged in the image.

Facebook accepted IDs
The file will not upload

Use the guide to troubleshooting ID uploads. An upload problem is separate from a decision to reject your ID.

Help uploading ID
ID submitted and under review

Check the request message and its response channel. Waiting alone does not mean rejection.

Open Facebook

If the usual steps did not help

When this guide helps: Use this for an identity request displayed by Facebook when an ID upload fails, is rejected or remains pending.

When you need a different route: Account recovery, age checks, ads and payments may use different document requirements. A message from an account calling itself “support” is not an official ID request.

Choose what is happening in your case

The file froze or failed before confirmation

Check the connection and any file requirements shown on screen. Preserve the error before retrying through the same official request. If the app itself keeps failing, troubleshoot it without deleting your only working session. This is not yet an ID rejection.

Next step: The app crashes or the feed will not load
The rejection mentions blur, glare or missing details

If resubmission is offered, take a fresh, well-lit photo of the accepted original with all required information in frame. Do not alter the name, date or photo, or substitute a screenshot. Correct the stated problem rather than sending the same image again.

You lack the requested document or the names differ

Check the list for this exact process; do not assume a passport is compulsory or every alternative is accepted. If the mismatch concerns your genuine everyday name, use Facebook’s name guidance. Do not edit an ID or change your birthday to force a match.

Next step: How to change your name on Facebook
Facebook confirms that identity review is pending

Keep the confirmation and follow the status or reply channel in that request. No immediate reply does not mean rejection or approval. Do not start a suspension appeal merely because identity review is pending.

Use the status or reply channel in your existing official request.

Identity is confirmed, but Facebook still shows a suspension

Keep the identity confirmation and full account decision. Follow the review option in the account notice if one is available.

What to prepare
  • Save the request’s purpose, date, exact error and any confirmation. Note where Facebook says the answer will arrive.
  • Open the accepted-document list and privacy notice from this request. Prepare only the documents and visible information it requires.
Check document photo quality

The browser tool asks you to mark the document’s corners. It does not verify authenticity or guarantee Meta will accept it. Do not change the document’s information.

Check document photo quality

Important: Submit ID only through the genuine Facebook request. Read its storage notice; no universal retention period or guaranteed restoration is established here.

Sources and verification limits

Checked:

Reviewed official indexed Help text about rejection reasons and everyday names. Direct access to the complete accepted-ID list was not verified. File troubleshooting is practical advice; no ID was uploaded and this request’s acceptance or retention rules were not tested.

How to check the result

The platform confirms this identity check is complete. Check actual account access separately; if suspension remains, continue the account decision.

Check what actually happened. Opening a link, saving a draft or receiving a receipt does not complete the case.

The situation

Illustrative example

You photographed your ID in a dim kitchen. Facebook says the details are unreadable. If resubmission is offered, take a new photo with no glare or blur and the whole ID visible. Do not alter the name or date in the image.

More examples

“The upload froze, with no confirmation”

It is unclear whether Facebook received the file.

What to do

Check your internet connection and retry if Facebook offers that option. Save the exact error message to describe the problem if support is available. An upload failure is not a decision on your ID.

“I do not have a passport available”

You need another document option.

What to do

Open the accepted-document list for your check. Some processes accept documents issued by non-government organizations. Check which documents and combinations your process allows.

“Someone asks for my ID in a private message”

An account named “support” contacts you.

What to do

Do not provide ID through that request. Open official Facebook yourself and check for a real request there. ClearRules does not collect ID for verification.
