Where can I change my Facebook name, and why might it be unavailable?
The short answer
For your personal profile name, open that profile’s name settings using the official instructions below. Meta is gradually moving users to Meta Accounts, so screens may differ. Help specifies 60 days between name changes. To change a facebook.com/… address, use the username process; a business Page name has separate instructions.

What this answer is based onWhat to do
Before saving, check the selected profile, spelling and name order. Use the name you identify with and use in everyday life.
- Identify what you want to change: the name on your personal posts, the username in your profile address or a Page name. Open the matching official instructions in the next-step section.
- For a personal name, sign into Facebook and find the correct profile’s name settings. If you see Accounts Center, check the profile selected there. Follow the current Help instructions if your interface differs.
- Enter your name and check the spelling before saving. If Facebook asks you to confirm it, follow the process offered. Check its accepted-document list; some checks allow documents other than a passport.
- If the change will not save, read the message and check when you last changed your name. Help specifies 60 days between changes. If another reason is given, open the name-troubleshooting guide and follow the options available to you.
The situation
After getting married, you use a different surname and want it on your posts. Open your personal profile name, check the new surname before saving and complete confirmation if Facebook asks. This does not require changing your shop’s Page name.

What to do
Read the waiting-period notice: Help specifies 60 days between name changes. If Facebook offers a separate step for your situation, follow it.
“I want to change my profile address, not the name above my photo”
You want a different part of the address after facebook.com/.
What to do
Open the instructions for changing your username, the part of your profile address after facebook.com/. It has separate requirements; changing your display name does not change your profile address.
