Can I create an additional profile with a different name?

A ClearRules guideUpdated: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Meta allows different names on additional profiles but prohibits impersonation. Your main profile uses the name you go by in everyday life.

What to do

Don’t borrow someone else’s identity. If an additional profile is available to you, make it your own: “Alex Cooks at Home,” for example, with your own photo and an honest description of your interests.

  1. Make sure the additional profile represents you rather than another person.
  2. Use your own image and description. For the main profile, account for the everyday-name requirement.
  3. Check the additional profile’s audience and settings before its first post.

The situation

Illustrative example

You create an additional profile to discuss your favourite chef’s recipes and use the chef’s name and photo. Readers may think the chef is replying in person.
