Does asking for comments make a post ineligible for Instagram recommendations?

A ClearRules guidePublished: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Meta’s 2024 explanation lists clickbait and engagement bait among content that may remain allowed but be ineligible for Instagram recommendations. It doesn’t say every invitation to comment is a violation.

What to do

Keep the café information and remove the repeated-comment demand. If feedback would help, ask a relevant question: “What morning opening time would work best for you?” This edit doesn’t guarantee recommendation eligibility.

  1. Read the whole caption and any text in the image or video: what purpose would the replies serve?
  2. Remove pressure and demands for repeated actions just to gain reach. Keep a genuine question if you intend to use the answers.
  3. If Instagram has shown a notice, check it in Account Status. Use the stated reason and any available review option rather than diagnosing a restriction from views alone.

The situation

Illustrative example

A café posts its opening hours and adds: “Comment YES five times and tag ten friends so more people see this post.” This is an editorial example of seeking interactions for reach, not a quoted Meta example or a verdict on an account.
