How can I stop losing an important Instagram conversation in my inbox?

A ClearRules guidePublished: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Pin the conversation itself. Meta describes up to three pinned individual or group chats: swipe left or hold the chat in the inbox, then choose Pin if offered.

What to do

Choose conversations you return to regularly. If you need a particular address inside a chat, pin that message separately.

  1. Open your inbox and check the name or participants of the intended conversation. Work with the chat’s row, rather than a message inside it.
  2. Swipe left on the row or press and hold it, then select Pin if available. Return to the inbox and check that the correct conversation is at the top.
  3. If all three places are occupied, unpin a less useful conversation before pinning this one. Check the list again so the chats you need remain easy to find.

The situation

Illustrative example

Example: before a family trip, you keep scrolling past shop notifications to find the family conversation. Pinning keeps that chat easy to reach.

The situation and an improvement

What causes the issue

Scroll through the inbox every time you need the same chat.

A more accurate version

Pin the conversation and review your choices when plans change.

More examples

You only need an address

You want to find one meeting-point message quickly.

What to do

Pin the message inside the conversation instead; that is a separate feature.

No Pin option appears

The menu differs from the instructions.

What to do

Use participant search for now; a missing control does not establish an account restriction.
