Appeal the removal of a post (9)

  • Oversight BoardInternational service · specific conditions

Independent review of an eligible decision

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

    What to do
    1. Open Meta’s final post decision and find the reference ID. Without it, this route is unavailable.
    2. Choose Submit an Appeal on the Board’s site, sign in to your active account and submit within Meta’s stated deadline.
    3. Check Track Your Appeal. Submitting does not mean the Board will select the case.

For eligible content decisions only: requires an active account, Meta’s final decision and a Meta-issued reference ID. The Board selects a limited number of cases. If the account is disabled and you cannot log in, this route does not fit.

It cannot guarantee removal everywhere or an individual result report. This is a private support route, not a court order or police report.

    What to do
    1. Read the specialist guide, then follow its official reporting form and select the appropriate category. Give the URL and reasons for removal. If identity details must be forwarded to the site, review the service’s separate consent request first.

Private nonprofit SafeLine assists with non-consensual intimate-image distribution by seeking site action. The victim, or a parent/guardian where the victim is a child, should use the route; a friend’s third-party request is not equivalent.

Houterasu provides legal-route information and, for eligible individuals, means-tested civil legal consultations.

Free consultation is different from lawyer representation. Legal-cost advances have separate screening and normally require repayment. The information line does not itself issue orders or guarantee a court result.

    What to do
    1. Check eligibility and reserve through your local Houterasu office. Ordinary free consultations are 30 minutes, up to three times for the same issue. Information line: 0570-078374, weekdays 09:00–21:00 and Saturdays 09:00–17:00 Japan time.

A court disclosure procedure may help identify an anonymous poster where legal requirements for infringement are met.

The linked instructions are from Tokyo District Court, not a guarantee that Tokyo has jurisdiction over your case. Court relief requires legal requirements and evidence; no removal, identity disclosure or account-restoration result is promised.

    What to do
    1. Seek prompt advice on preserving logs before requesting deletion. Use the court’s current checklist, petition templates, infringement schedule and exhibit instructions for the actual provider and order sought.
    2. The court’s current notice says disclosure-order cases remain paper filings; the May 2026 civil-litigation digitisation does not make this procedure electronic. Confirm the filing court and current submission requirements.

A court disclosure procedure may help identify an anonymous poster where legal requirements for infringement are met. Platform and access-provider stages can differ; disclosure, provision and deletion-prohibition orders have different purposes.

A lawyer can assess whether urgent provisional relief is available for unlawful content.

The linked instructions are from Tokyo District Court, not a guarantee that Tokyo has jurisdiction over your case. Court relief requires legal requirements and evidence; no removal, identity disclosure or account-restoration result is promised. Filing/service costs and possibly security apply. Failure to provide ordered security can prevent relief; verify the amount and deadline in the actual case.

    What to do
    1. Use the court’s current provisional-relief checklist and petition/exhibit guidance. The Tokyo page says electronic filing is unavailable for this procedure; verify paper submission, hearing arrangements and the correct respondent with counsel.

What to do

  1. Open the official reporting form and select Meta, the service, your role and the obligation concerned. Provide email, relevant dates, reference and URL; screenshots are optional. A name is not required.
  2. For an eligible request to a designated large provider, the ordinary seven-day rule concerns notice of action or refusal with reasons, not guaranteed deletion or account restoration. Consultation with the poster, specialist investigation or unavoidable circumstances can justify a later decision after a timely explanation; limited non-notification exceptions also exist.

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
