United Kingdom — Available options

The number shows how many procedures are listed. It does not guarantee that your case will be accepted. Each option’s requirements are shown below.

Appeal the removal of a post (1)

  • Oversight BoardInternational service · specific conditions

Independent review of an eligible decision

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

    What to do
    1. Open Meta’s final post decision and find the reference ID. Without it, this route is unavailable.
    2. Choose Submit an Appeal on the Board’s site, sign in to your active account and submit within Meta’s stated deadline.
    3. Check Track Your Appeal. Submitting does not mean the Board will select the case.

For eligible content decisions only: requires an active account, Meta’s final decision and a Meta-issued reference ID. The Board selects a limited number of cases. If the account is disabled and you cannot log in, this route does not fit.

No explanation or way to appeal (1)

  • OfcomLocal body or procedure

    Report about service compliance

Reports can inform supervision, but the regulator may not resolve individual disputes or recover an account on request.

    What to do
    1. Keep your report to the platform and its response.
    2. Choose the appropriate category on the regulator’s page. A supervisory report does not replace a Meta appeal.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

Ofcom uses reports for online-safety supervision. It does not resolve individual platform disputes or replace an account appeal.

Access or protect personal data (1)

  • Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)Local body or procedure

    Protect personal-data rights

This route concerns data rights. Being unable to log in does not by itself prove a breach: this is not an account-recovery service. Investigations and remedies depend on local law.

    What to do
    1. Describe the specific data issue. For access requests, first ask Meta for the data and keep a copy of your request.
    2. Check local deadlines and requirements. Attach your request and reply, and explain which data rights were affected.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

ICO handles personal-data processing, not ordinary account disputes. Give the organisation a chance to respond first. Its 2026 guidance gives organisations 30 days to acknowledge complaints, not to resolve them; a data-access request normally has a one-calendar-month response deadline. ICO cannot award compensation.

  • UK International Consumer Centre (UKICC)Local body or procedure

Advice on rights and next steps

Check the service’s scope and any fees. Advice does not itself require Meta to restore an account.

    What to do
    1. Collect the receipt, correspondence, relevant dates and the reply to your written complaint.
    2. Enter the business name and country, purchase date, amount and desired outcome.
    3. Attach the evidence and submit the form. Keep the case reference when you receive it.

  • HMCTS Small Claims Mediation Service — England and WalesRegional route · check eligibility

A mediation stage within an existing defended, eligible England and Wales money claim. It is not a separate account-review application.

Not available simply by sending an account-recovery complaint to HMCTS. Mandatory attendance does not force agreement; nonattendance or no genuine settlement effort can bring sanctions. Does not guarantee account recovery, compensation or a favourable court judgment. England and Wales only. A foreign defendant requires separate jurisdiction and service checks.

    What to do
    1. Check the legal basis, defendant, jurisdiction and service requirements using the court-claim route.
    2. If the claim is defended, follow the court’s mediation referral or attendance notice.
    3. Prepare the claim reference, evidence, loss calculation and acceptable settlement options.
    4. Attend the telephone appointment; seek advice before agreeing to binding terms.
    5. Keep the settlement, or follow court hearing directions if no agreement is reached.

There must be an eligible defended court money claim, with legal basis, jurisdiction and valid service already addressed. Follow pre-action obligations and the court’s referral. Under current guidance, defended claims of GBP 10,000 or less must attend; otherwise follow the court notice and any consent requirement.

  • Report Harmful ContentLocal body or procedure

    Report harm or an offence

This concerns harm or misconduct, not reversing any Meta restriction. If you face immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

    What to do
    1. Keep links, dates and evidence you can safely preserve. Do not redistribute illegal material; follow the service’s instructions on evidence.
    2. Read the service’s rules, choose the relevant type of harm and complete the report. State whether you have already reported it to Meta.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

For UK residents: report to the platform first and retain its full response and the direct content link. A parent or guardian should submit for a child under 13. Capacity has been limited since April 2025; replies and intervention are not guaranteed. This is not account recovery.

Consider a court claim (4)

  • Courts — England & WalesLocal body or procedure

    Hearing an eligible court claim

Small claims often concern monetary claims. The court may not have power to order account restoration. Consider fees, costs, deadlines, contract terms and local rules.

    What to do
    1. Read your region’s court rules. Check jurisdiction, claim limits and available remedies.
    2. Identify the correct defendant and service procedure. Prepare a timeline, evidence and an amount based on documented losses.
    3. Check required pre-action steps and fees. Use the court’s own form; this guide is not a court filing.

This is an England and Wales money-claim route. Online filing requires England/Wales addresses for claimant and defendant. For a foreign defendant, separately check jurisdiction and service; paper filing does not remove those requirements. Court fees apply. It is not a ready-made account-restoration claim.

What this route offers: Report about service compliance

You want to inform the regulator about safety issues or how a service meets its duties.

Ofcom uses reports for online-safety supervision. It does not resolve individual platform disputes or replace an account appeal.

Reports can inform supervision, but the regulator may not resolve individual disputes or recover an account on request.

What to do after applying

No reply yet

Check the submission confirmation, your spam folder and the service’s case portal. Look up its stated response time. If that time has passed, ask for an update and include your existing case reference, if you have one.

Your application was not accepted

Read the reason. A case outside the body’s powers, missing documents and a decision against your claim call for different next steps. Correct the stated gaps or follow the appeal instructions in the reply. Check the appeal deadline before submitting again.

You have a reply, but the issue remains

A receipt confirms delivery. For your own refund, contract or access claim, choose the appropriate separate procedure. Do not wait for an individual remedy from a service that explicitly does not provide one.

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
