I can’t find “Your activity off Meta technologies”. How do I control data from other businesses now?
The short answer
Meta announced that it is retiring “Your activity off Meta technologies” and expanding “Activity from other businesses”, previously called “Activity information from ad partners”. Where this change has reached your account, the newer control covers use of that activity to personalise ads and other content, such as Feed and AI responses. A missing old control alone does not mean your account is broken.
What this answer is based onWhat to do
Before asking for help, note the selected profile, country, app version, date, setting name and current choice. A screenshot can help; hide contact details and other private information before sharing it.
- Open Facebook or Instagram directly and check which profile you are using. In settings, identify your Accounts Center or updated Meta Account and the profiles grouped there. Do not unlink accounts just to look for this control.
- Look for “Activity from other businesses” or the older name “Activity information from ad partners”. Use settings search if available. Labels and menus can differ; read the description instead of relying on an old screenshot.
- Check what the control shown to you covers. In the announced new version, it concerns activity that other businesses send to Meta and its use for ads and non-ad personalisation. Check which profiles the choice applies to before changing it.
- If you do not want that use, choose the option offered on your screen that declines it. Read any confirmation and save if requested. Return to the setting to check the recorded choice; do not assume leaving the page saved it.
- If you still see the old control, follow the explanation available to your account. Meta announced the changes in June 2026 for the US and some other countries starting the following month, with more to follow. We have not verified a complete current rollout list.
- If neither name appears or a change will not save, use official in-app Help or the linked Help page. Describe the exact missing control or error, not a general account ban. Keep the details from the tip above; a contact or chat option is not guaranteed.
- Keep separate goals separate: use the data-download guide for a copy of your information, app privacy controls for who sees your posts, and recommendation preferences for what you watch. None of those checks confirms that this activity-data choice was changed.
The situation
You bought a tent on another website and now want to review whether shopping activity is used to personalise your Facebook or Instagram experience. Look for the activity-from-businesses control, check its explanation and record your choice. The topic of one ad or Reel does not by itself establish what data caused it.
More examples
The old switch has disappeared
A tutorial tells you to disconnect future off-Meta activity, but that option is no longer shown.
What to do
Check the newer control and its current explanation. Do not install a third-party tool or create a new account to reproduce the old menu.
Ads still appear after you decline
You saved a choice against using activity from other businesses, but you still see ads.
What to do
Recheck the saved choice and its scope. This setting does not promise an ad-free app, so the presence of ads alone does not prove the change failed.
The setting mentions several profiles
Facebook and Instagram appear together when you open the control.
What to do
Read which profiles will be affected. If you need to review account grouping, use the linked-accounts guide before making unrelated login or membership changes.
