Do I need an AI disclosure if I generated only the voice?
The short answer
Meta requires its AI disclosure tool for realistic synthetic audio in ordinary unpaid posts too. Even if you filmed the footage yourself, you still need to disclose an AI-generated voice.
What this answer is based onWhat to do
Use the available AI disclosure before posting. You can also explain in the caption: “I filmed the video; the narration was generated using AI.”
- Listen to the finished video and identify what was generated: the voice, individual lines or the whole piece.
- Find the AI disclosure tool when posting and disclose the use. A caption helps viewers but does not replace the platform’s tool.
- Check the title and caption: are you presenting the narration as a real interview, customer testimonial or recording of an event that never happened?
The situation
A creator films a city walk on their phone, writes a script and uses AI narration. The voice sounds human. They post an ordinary Reel without paid promotion, thinking: “I filmed it myself, so there is nothing to label.”
The situation and an improvement
Real footage of a walk, a synthetic voice and no explanation of how it was made.
AI disclosure plus: “My walk around the old town. I wrote the script; the narration was generated using AI.”
