What is the best time to post on Instagram?

A ClearRules guidePublished: Updated: How we prepare guides

The short answer

Start with your own post results: which content gets the response you want? Open Insights, the account statistics area, if available. If your scheduling tool suggests a time, test it with your posts. The useful time for you depends on your audience and results.

What to do

Choose the goal first: views, saves, meaningful replies or enquiries. Likes do not stand in for every outcome.

  1. Open available account insights and several previous posts’ results. Record format, topic, date, time and outcome. When scheduling a Facebook Page post, check Active times if offered. Check the scheduler’s timezone and your audience’s timezone.
  2. Choose two realistic time windows and alternate them across several comparable posts. Keep topic and format similar; note ads, holidays or unusual events. This is a practical experiment, not an Instagram requirement.
  3. Compare the result you chose to track after the same amount of time for each post, and compare formats separately. Look for a pattern across several posts. Keep the time that works better and test again when your audience or content changes substantially.

Which situation applies to you?

I want to use my Instagram insights

Open the available account and post statistics in Insights. Choose the measure that matters to you and compare similar posts at the same point after publication.

I am scheduling a Facebook Page post

Check Active times when scheduling if it is available. Treat the suggested time as a candidate to test and check the timezone before saving.

Changing the time is not restoring reach

Check for a specific recommendation restriction notice. Separately compare topic, format and audience response: posting time is not the only possible cause.

The situation

Illustrative example

A maker posts similar pottery lessons in two chosen windows. After the same elapsed time for each lesson, they record saves and class enquiries. One viral Reel is not treated as proof of an ideal hour.

Followers live in another timezone

You moved, but your main audience stayed in the previous country.

What to do

Record times with their timezone. When scheduling, check the corresponding local time for your audience and compare the selected windows.
