The number shows how many procedures are listed. It does not guarantee that your case will be accepted. Each option’s requirements are shown below.

Appeal the removal of a post (1)

  • Oversight BoardInternational service · specific conditions

Independent review of an eligible decision

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

    What to do
    1. Open Meta’s final post decision and find the reference ID. Without it, this route is unavailable.
    2. Choose Submit an Appeal on the Board’s site, sign in to your active account and submit within Meta’s stated deadline.
    3. Check Track Your Appeal. Submitting does not mean the Board will select the case.

For eligible content decisions only: requires an active account, Meta’s final decision and a Meta-issued reference ID. The Board selects a limited number of cases. If the account is disabled and you cannot log in, this route does not fit.

Access or protect personal data (1)

  • Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC)Local body or procedure

Kenya ODPC: an individual complaint about infringement of personal-data rights, including misuse, inaccurate data or a data-access problem.

Use File a Complaint for a data subject. Report a Data Breach is the separate controller/processor notification route under section 43. A blocked Instagram/Facebook account alone does not prove a data violation. ODPC admission, territorial applicability and any remedy require individual assessment.

    What to do
    1. Separate the alleged data infringement from a moderation or login dispute. Explain your connection to Kenya, the organisation involved and the specific remedy sought; include earlier correspondence rather than claiming it exists.
    2. Follow File a Complaint to the official CIE form. Choose self or representative; the public form provides for representative authorisation and email verification using a six-digit code. We did not request or test a code.
    3. The form requests ID/passport details and identity uploads: both sides of the ID or the passport identification page. Listed file types include PDF, JPG, PNG and JPEG. Verify the official domain and current requirements before supplying these yourself.
    4. Add respondent details, dates, the complaint, harm/urgency, desired remedy and evidence. The anonymity option concerns disclosure to the respondent, not absence of identification in the portal. The regulations also provide for anonymous complaints; ask ODPC about a suitable alternative where confidentiality is essential.
    5. Preview the information before submitting and retain the receipt if provided. The form’s verification, uploads and submission were not tested. If you cannot complete it, use the complaint email expressly listed in the official FAQ.

  • Competition Authority of Kenya — consumer complaintsRegional route · check eligibility

Kenya: ask CAK to assess a paid-service, purchase or unfair-selling dispute involving misleading representations or unconscionable conduct under Part VI of the Competition Act. Identify the supplier, the transaction and the remedy sought.

Establish the Kenyan connection. Section 6 can cover overseas conduct involving supply into or within Kenya; cross-border acceptance and enforcement still need individual assessment. The consumer definition excludes resale and production/manufacturing inputs, but is not limited to private individuals: companies can qualify, and section 57 also addresses unconscionable business transactions. Do not assume every advertising or business-account dispute qualifies. For a social-media purchase, identify the actual seller; using Facebook or Instagram does not by itself make Meta the supplier. This is not a general account-suspension appeal or an account-recovery guarantee.

    What to do
    1. Identify the supplier and Kenyan connection. Try to resolve the transaction dispute with the supplier and retain dated evidence.
    2. Complete the consumer complaint form and relevant attachments. Use the official filing instructions for the portal or an offline channel; state the remedy sought.
    3. Retain receipt confirmation and the reference, answer information requests and track progress. Check any formal decision and appeal instructions promptly.

Use this route for a concrete transaction or unfair-selling problem, not a bare account-restoration request. Identify the actual supplier and Kenyan connection. Supplier-first contact is encouraged; foreign suppliers and business purchases require individual assessment.

Official court guidance for eligible Kenyan civil or commercial money claims up to KES 1,000,000. A paid platform-service claim needs separate legal-basis, jurisdiction and defendant checks.

Requirements, deadlines and documents
Possible remedy
Depending on the case, CAK may seek a refund, replacement or repair, correction of misleading representations, or product-safety action. It refers matters outside its remit to relevant government agencies; prosecution is a separate process. An acknowledgement is not an acceptance on the merits, refund award or promise to restore an account.
Sources for these requirementsConfirmed by the source
Prerequisites
Try the supplier first and save its response or non-response. CAK encourages this, but the reviewed instructions do not establish a universal mandatory waiting period. Prepare your contact details, supplier identity and address, dated transaction/payment evidence, the misleading promise or disputed charge, correspondence, harm and requested remedy. The form asks about prior complaints, other agencies and pending court or Tribunal proceedings. Attach relevant contracts, warranties, invoices, receipts and screenshots. A representative should identify the person authorised to discuss the complaint. Use only necessary evidence, never passwords or recovery codes.
Sources for these requirementsPartly confirmed
Deadline and starting event
Act promptly: section 86 prevents an investigation starting more than three years after the alleged infringement ceased. This is not a three-year guarantee for filing or every other remedy. The service charter lists an 8-day preliminary investigation, communication within 5 days of a decision, a full investigation within 30 days after complete information, and determination within 25 days thereafter. These are service standards, not a promised refund date; do not relabel the periods as working days.
Sources for these requirementsPartly confirmed
Cost
CAK lists consumer-complaint investigations as free. This does not establish that postage, translation, legal advice or a later Tribunal/court case is free.

Filing language
The complaint form and filing manual are in English; CAK also publishes its service charter in Kiswahili and English. A published acceptance policy for Kiswahili complaints, other languages or translations was not verified. Ask CAK before relying on a language other than the form’s English.
Sources for these requirementsPartly confirmed
Access and sign-in
The official manual requires a portal account, then File a Complaint → Consumer Complaint, supplier details, a complaint description and supporting files. Use the filing page’s current portal link. Email a completed form to info@cak.go.ke; CAK also lists complain@cak.go.ke for complaints and accepts post, telephone and walk-in contact. Current office: CBK Pension Towers, 15th Floor, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi; post: P.O. Box 36265-00200, Nairobi. Telephone: +254 20 2628233 or +254 20 2779000. Other ways to get in touch

Choose the option that fits. If you have already submitted a case, include its reference when following up.

  • CAK filing page and portal link

The manual requires a portal account. Follow the current link on CAK’s site; opening the page or creating an account does not lodge a complaint.

  • Download the consumer complaint form

Complete and sign the form, attach relevant evidence and use an official submission channel. Its printed street address is older; check the current CAK contact page.

  • info@cak.go.ke: completed form and evidence

The form gives this email for submission. CAK also publishes complain@cak.go.ke. An email link opens your mail app and sends nothing automatically.

  • +254 20 2779000: CAK assistance

Ask about jurisdiction, language, missing supplier details or filing arrangements. Telephone contact does not replace supplying the required complaint information and evidence.

You have a reply, but the issue remains

Keep the complaint, attachments, delivery proof and reference. The manual describes automatic receipt confirmation and dashboard tracking. CAK may request missing information and contact the supplier. If no acknowledgement arrives, ask CAK to confirm receipt and follow up using the same reference. For a formal determination, check Tribunal eligibility and procedure promptly: section 40, applied by section 70A(2), provides for a written appeal within 30 days of receiving the decision. Do not treat an ordinary status enquiry as an appeal.

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
