Norway — Available options

The number shows how many procedures are listed. It does not guarantee that your case will be accepted. Each option’s requirements are shown below.

Appeal the removal of a post (1)

  • Oversight BoardInternational service · specific conditions

Independent review of an eligible decision

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

    What to do
    1. Open Meta’s final post decision and find the reference ID. Without it, this route is unavailable.
    2. Choose Submit an Appeal on the Board’s site, sign in to your active account and submit within Meta’s stated deadline.
    3. Check Track Your Appeal. Submitting does not mean the Board will select the case.

For eligible content decisions only: requires an active account, Meta’s final decision and a Meta-issued reference ID. The Board selects a limited number of cases. If the account is disabled and you cannot log in, this route does not fit.

Access or protect personal data (1)

  • DatatilsynetLocal body or procedure

For an individual with a specific problem involving their own personal data. Explain the Norwegian connection: where you live, work or believe the infringement occurred. Representing someone else requires signed authority; a company’s ownership of a page is not an individual’s data right.

Datatilsynet is an independent public regulator. It handles data rights, but cannot decide whether an account ban is lawful, order the account reopened or award compensation. Access to data and access to an account are different issues.

    What to do
    1. First send the platform a written access, correction or erasure request that identifies the data issue. Prior contact is required for a complaint about an unmet right. The usual reply period is one month; a justified two-month extension must be explained before that month ends. A normal ban appeal does not replace this request.
    2. Prepare a short timeline, the responsible organisation’s name, your contact details, your request and the platform’s replies. Include relevant exchanges with other authorities and a mandate if representing someone. Keep the evidence focused; passwords and recovery codes are not needed.
    3. The online form requires ID-porten login with BankID or another supported method. Without that login, post the complaint to Datatilsynet, Postboks 458 Sentrum, 0105 Oslo, Norway. Public instructions were checked, not login or submission.
    4. Keep a copy and the case number. Datatilsynet says it will contact you within one month of receipt with information about handling and expected timing. This is not a final-decision deadline. A cross-border case may go to the lead EEA authority; the Norwegian regulator remains your contact.
    5. If no reply arrives, ask the official guidance service about receipt and quote the case number. To add information through the form, choose “Annet” and enter “Tilleggsinformasjon til tidligere innsendt klage” plus the number. Follow the decision’s appeal instructions: Datatilsynet first, then Personvernnemnda if the decision is maintained. A repeated complaint is not an appeal.

A formal complaint concerns your data and involves follow-up. An anonymous tip is different: the regulator does not promise to contact its sender. Do not submit a contract-only dispute or someone else’s page as your own data case. ClearRules does not receive documents or file complaints for you.

Resolve a payment or service dispute (4)

  • ECC-NetRegional route · check eligibility

    Consumer complaint

First identify the seller on the receipt: it may be Meta, Apple, Google or another company. A payment complaint does not guarantee account recovery.

    What to do
    1. Write to the seller: what you paid for, what went wrong and what remedy you want. Keep the reply.
    2. Check whether the local body accepts disputes with that seller. Give the facts and amount, and attach the receipt.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

For a consumer dispute with a trader in another EU country, Norway or Iceland. Contact the ECC in your country of residence with the contract, proof of payment and correspondence. This is free help with settlement, not a binding account appeal or support for businesses.

Advice on rights and next steps

Check the service’s scope and any fees. Advice does not itself require Meta to restore an account.

    What to do
    1. Find the service’s contact details and choose your region if required.
    2. Briefly explain the situation. Ask what remedy you can seek and where to apply.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

Start with Klageguide or the contact form. The service explains your rights and next steps but does not decide disputes. For a foreign trader, ask about Forbruker Europa and choose a letter template matching your contract.

Norway · Appeal an account restriction

All options by goal

Different routes seek different outcomes. Use a data or payment complaint only when that is the actual issue.

No confirmed process outside Meta has been found for this situation

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
