Appeal an account restriction (11)

  • Appeals Centre EuropeRegional route · check eligibility

Independent review of an eligible decision

This is a short eligibility check, not confirmation that your case will be accepted or your account restored. Read the full rules and check ACE’s current information before submitting.

    What to do

    Check ACE’s requirements

    • You are located in an EU member state and are at least 16.
    • The platform decision was made within the last six months. Check the date of that decision.
    • Submissions and correspondence are accepted in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish or Dutch. This is separate from the language of the disputed content.
    • An account, Page or group restriction must require reviewing one or more pieces of content. Being unable to sign in alone does not make a case eligible.

An internal Meta appeal is encouraged, but you do not have to file one or wait for its result before contacting ACE. If you have appealed, keep that information.

    Which cases are outside scope
    • Impersonating another person, brand or organisation; account removals based on minimum age; identity-verification requests and outcomes.
    • Hacked or compromised access; behaviour-only decisions; suspension solely through linkage to another suspended account; technical or automated spam.
    • Content removals based on copyright or other intellectual-property claims; suspected sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Check ACE’s rules separately for other CSE categories.
    • Check the restrictions if the same dispute is already before another out-of-court dispute body or a competent court. That is different from an internal Meta appeal.

This is a short eligibility check, not confirmation that your case will be accepted or your account restored. Read the full rules and check ACE’s current information before submitting.

No explanation or way to appeal (1)

  • NMHHLocal body or procedure

    Complaint about DSA compliance

The coordinator oversees DSA compliance and may forward the complaint to the competent body. This is not an individual appeal on the merits of a restriction or a promise of recovery.

    What to do
    1. If a reporting route is available, tell the platform about the issue. Save its response or a screenshot showing the missing option.
    2. In the local DSA process, explain what failed: the explanation, complaint option or handling of your complaint. Attach evidence.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

NMHH’s procedure requires exhausting the platform’s available internal complaint remedies first. Keep the outcome and evidence of attempts; explain if the required channel is inaccessible. This concerns DSA compliance and does not promise account restoration.

Access or protect personal data (1)

  • NAIHLocal body or procedure

    Protect personal-data rights

This route concerns data rights. Being unable to log in does not by itself prove a breach: this is not an account-recovery service. Investigations and remedies depend on local law.

    What to do
    1. Describe the specific data issue. For access requests, first ask Meta for the data and keep a copy of your request.
    2. Check local deadlines and requirements. Attach your request and reply, and explain which data rights were affected.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

Ordinary email to NAIH does not initiate formal proceedings. Use e-Papír or the prescribed written postal/in-person method. State the specific breach, evidence and remedy requested. The published 150-day period has statutory exclusions.

    1. Read your region’s court rules. Check jurisdiction, claim limits and available remedies.
    2. Identify the correct defendant and service procedure. Prepare a timeline, evidence and an amount based on documented losses.
    3. Check required pre-action steps and fees. Use the court’s own form; this guide is not a court filing.

For eligible cross-border civil and commercial claims up to €5,000; Denmark does not participate. Use Form A. Check jurisdiction, court language, fees and the remedy separately. Completing a form online does not necessarily file it electronically with the court.

What this route offers: Independent review of an eligible decision

You want a decision about your account or post reviewed. Availability depends on country, subject, decision date and the recipient’s rules.

ACE covers content decisions and related account, page and group restrictions on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Maps, Pinterest and Threads. You must be in the EU, aged 16+, with an enforcement decision from the last six months. Currently free; an internal appeal is encouraged but optional. Decisions are non-binding.

Why this result

Requirements need checking

Not all requirements for this route are represented in the matcher. Check the recipient’s full instructions.

  • ACE does not review hacking or lost access as such, or intellectual-property disputes. For other cases, check the supported content category and exclusions separately.
  • ACE reviews enforcement of platform content policies, not content legality. If the notice mentions illegality, check whether there is a separate supported content-policy ground. Mentioning law alone establishes neither eligibility nor exclusion of a mixed dispute.

This is preliminary matching, not eligibility confirmation or a success estimate.

  1. Keep the notice, decision date and disputed content link. If you have contacted Meta, prepare that information. Check whether another dispute body or court is handling the same case.
  2. Check the conditions and exclusions above, then read ACE’s current rules. On ACE’s site, choose the dispute submission option and follow its questions.
  3. If you submit a dispute, keep its confirmation and reference. Reply within the same case and do not create a duplicate ACE submission.

RTR accepts DSA complaints in German through eRTR after you contact the platform. Normally free, with a clearly bad-faith fee exception. The filing window depends on the internal complaint decision; confirm borderline dates. Outcomes are non-binding.

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

What to prepare

Account links or IDs, dates, notices, your requests and replies. For payments, keep the receipt and seller’s name.

What to do after applying

No reply yet

Check the submission confirmation, your spam folder and the service’s case portal. Look up its stated response time. If that time has passed, ask for an update and include your existing case reference, if you have one.

Your application was not accepted

Read the reason. A case outside the body’s powers, missing documents and a decision against your claim call for different next steps. Correct the stated gaps or follow the appeal instructions in the reply. Check the appeal deadline before submitting again.

You have a reply, but the issue remains

If the decision supports you, keep the full decision and case number. Ask the body how to track implementation and attach it to your existing Meta case. A favourable decision and actual restoration are separate stages.

Individual cases highlight possible difficulties, not success rates. User accounts have not been verified against case records; official case studies are labelled separately.

An account was restored after a data-access complaint

Author reports access restored · Post date:

A European poster could not download their data and complained to Ireland’s DPC after contacting Meta. Months later, they reported restoration and said DPC forwarded Meta’s finding of no violation. They had also tried other routes; the case documents were not independently verified.

What this means for you: A data complaint needs a genuine data issue. DPC does not promise account restoration; keep your request and Meta’s response.

Recovery was proposed, but access was still pending

Final restoration not confirmed · Post date:

A European poster described eight months without Instagram. After a DPC complaint, Meta reportedly confirmed a compromise and proposed recovery using a new secure email. Despite the celebratory title, the author explicitly said access had not yet returned. Later completion was not confirmed.

What this means for you: A recovery offer is not completed recovery. Keep the correspondence and check whether you can actually sign in.

A group was restored after independent review

Appeals Centre Europe reports a case where Facebook restored a group after receiving its decision. This documents an individual result, not an appeal success rate or implementation of every decision.

What this means for you: Keep the decision and check exactly what was restored. A profile, Page and group may each be the subject of a separate dispute.

A favourable decision without restored access

Author reports access not restored · Post date:

A Reddit user reports a favourable DSA decision in June 2026 but no restored access by August. We have not verified the case documents; legal assertions in the discussion are not established facts.

What this means for you: Distinguish a decision from its implementation. Keep it, then assess the relevant supervisory or court route instead of duplicating the case across mediators.

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
