  • Washington Attorney General — voluntary consumer complaint resolutionRegional route · check eligibility

Free informal help with a genuine consumer dispute involving a Washington resident or a Washington business. A paid platform-service dispute may qualify after screening.

The office cannot force a business to reply or settle, represent an individual, or guarantee account restoration. This is a consumer route, not a general appeal of Meta's moderation decisions. Washington eligibility must be genuine; do not supply a borrowed address. Complaints and attachments go to the business and can become public records, subject to legal exemptions.

    What to do

Official information confirms what the service covers, but we could not fully verify access to its page or form.

Only partial information from official sources was available. Full requirements and the form could not be reconfirmed.

You must be a Washington resident or complain about a business located in Washington. First try the company, as recommended. This is consumer assistance; general business-to-business eligibility was not established. A settlement requires voluntary cooperation.

Appeal the removal of a post (1)

  • Oversight BoardInternational service · specific conditions

Independent review of an eligible decision

A review does not guarantee reversal. Do not duplicate a submission while the same case is still awaiting a response.

    What to do
    1. Open Meta’s final post decision and find the reference ID. Without it, this route is unavailable.
    2. Choose Submit an Appeal on the Board’s site, sign in to your active account and submit within Meta’s stated deadline.
    3. Check Track Your Appeal. Submitting does not mean the Board will select the case.

For eligible content decisions only: requires an active account, Meta’s final decision and a Meta-issued reference ID. The Board selects a limited number of cases. If the account is disabled and you cannot log in, this route does not fit.

Access or protect personal data (1)

  • California Privacy Protection Agency — California onlyLocal body or procedure

    Protect personal-data rights

This route concerns data rights. Being unable to log in does not by itself prove a breach: this is not an account-recovery service. Investigations and remedies depend on local law.

    What to do
    1. Describe the specific data issue. For access requests, first ask Meta for the data and keep a copy of your request.
    2. Check local deadlines and requirements. Attach your request and reply, and explain which data rights were affected.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

For applicable California consumer rights under CCPA only. Use CCPA complaints and describe the specific data violation. CalPrivacy does not represent individual complainants. Residents of other states need their own applicable procedure first.

  • FTC — ReportFraudLocal body or procedure

Report a possible breach to the regulator

A regulatory report is not an individual refund or account-restoration decision. Check the body’s remit and process.

    What to do
    1. Keep the offer, terms, receipt and company’s reply. Identify the seller on the receipt.
    2. Choose the consumer complaint form. Explain the facts and desired outcome. Do not use a form for complaints about the authority itself.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

For scams or unfair practices, select Report Now and explain the facts. Keep the submission confirmation. FTC uses reports to identify misconduct; it does not handle your account-restoration case or replace a complaint to the appropriate state authority.

Report abuse, threats or scams (5)

  • FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)Local body or procedure

    Report harm or an offence

This concerns harm or misconduct, not reversing any Meta restriction. If you face immediate danger, contact local emergency services.

    What to do
    1. Keep links, dates and evidence you can safely preserve. Do not redistribute illegal material; follow the service’s instructions on evidence.
    2. Read the service’s rules, choose the relevant type of harm and complete the report. State whether you have already reported it to Meta.
    3. Keep the submission confirmation and reference number. If asked for more information, reply within the same case.

IC3 receives cybercrime reports, not ordinary Meta appeals. Keep a copy and submission confirmation. It does not promise an investigation, recovery of money or restoration, and IC3 says it will not contact you. Do not wait for an individual account decision.

    3. Keep the case details and follow the instructions for checking progress.

For intimate images of you taken at 18+, including threatened sharing. You need the file on your device. It stays there; a digital fingerprint is shared. Coverage is limited to participating public-facing platforms, not the whole internet or encrypted messages. Keep your case number and PIN.

Consider a court claim (1)

Find the complaints section or contact details. Check whether the body handles your issue and which documents it needs. This link is not a confirmed submission form.

Choose the state and specific court. Check the permitted remedy, amount, limitation period, fees, defendant and service. Many small-claims courts handle monetary claims, so do not assume they can order account restoration. An Attorney General complaint is not a universal prerequisite.

User-reported experience

The author later reported both accounts restored

Author reports access restored · Post date:

A 10 June 2025 Reddit post described a San Mateo hearing and a 30-day continuance, with recovery still underway. In a linked follow-up dated 25 June, the same author reported that Facebook and Instagram returned about a week after the hearing. This remains a personal account; no final judgment was independently verified.

What this means for you: A hearing, continuance and judgment are different stages. Check emails, including spam, and actual access to every affected account.

The account returned; the author then accepted $65

Author reports accepting a settlement · Post date:

A poster reported that their account returned after filing, before the hearing. At the hearing, Meta offered $65 toward court costs; the author later accepted the written offer. Receipt of payment was not confirmed. This was not a judgment awarding the $5,000 originally claimed.

What this means for you: Distinguish the claim, accepted agreement and actual payment. Recovery before a hearing does not establish a successful damages judgment.

Does every country have an account-recovery route?

We have not confirmed that every country has an account-recovery process outside Meta. This directory covers the listed countries, with options for data, payments, harmful content and, where available, account restrictions and court claims. Several links do not mean several ways to restore an account. We state when no suitable option has been found.

The review covers the entries in this directory. It does not establish that every possible route has been found. An accessible page, an applicable procedure and a successful outcome are different things.

How to use this directory

Different bodies handle different issues. A refused data request, a payment dispute and an account appeal involve separate procedures. Choose the one that matches your situation. The body you contact decides whether to accept the case and what action to take.

Each card shows when its sources were researched. No real complaints were submitted.
